This is a really good piece of kit in a 1985 sort of way. Sounds nice and clean most of the time but you can get some screaming oscillator-sync noises out of it which seem almost out of character. Great for pads, bleepy-bloopies and the like.
Architecture is standard Roland - six voices, each with two oscillators (syncable and cross-modulatable) through a filter and then an amplifier stage with a stereo chorus tacked onto it. The good thing is that you get two lots of the above, which can be stacked (including crossfaded) or split to produce either multiple tones or more complex, layered sounds. It's tiresome to program without the programmer doodad and we were fortunate enough to locate one recently.
The synth also looks very stylish (caveat: '80s definition of style).
