The world's most underrated drum machine. I'm serious. This beauty has a nice complement of sampled waveforms, mostly at 48kHz. So far, so ordinary but each voice, on playback, goes through a truly mindboggling (for a drum machine, at least) array of filters, pitch envelopes and so on to produce a sound that differs entirely from the original waveform (if desired). Jonathan loves his and would give it up only reluctantly.
It's only real shortcoming is the fact that it only has four outputs - a stereo pair and two individuals. This isn't too much of a problem but I would have appreciated several more of the things. It covers most bases - the TR-808 and TR-909 sounds that seem to be so well loved are there, as are some nice electro-sounding Obie DMX-type noises. It'll even do rock'n'roll and rock ballad type stuff. Oh, and there are some ethnic instruments in there for those who are that way inclined...
Jonathan would really like to own a Novation DrumStation but, even if he had it, would never let this wonderful instrument go.
